Contact Your Senators Today

The United States Senate will likely vote tomorrow on an amendment to the Defense Authorization bill that will have the effect of stifling your freedoms of speech and religious expression…and we need you to voice your opposition to this legislation today by contacting your senators!

The amendment has been attached to the defense bill to increase its likelihood of passage.  If passed and signed into law by President Obama, this legislation would allow the prosecution of crimes "motivated by prejudice" against certain protected characteristics, including "sexual orientation" and "gender identity."

This amendment would do little to deter violent crime or increase prosecutions of violent criminal acts.  Its practical effect would be to provide tools for those seeking to silence opposing views—particularly religious views regarding homosexual behavior.  For example, Christian pastors who preach biblically based messages regarding homosexual behavior could potentially face prosecution for “inciting” violence against individuals engaged in such behavior.
