pureJUSTICE Update and Internship Announcement January 11th was National Human Trafficking Awareness Day, and members of the pureHOPE staff have been busy opposing modern-day slavery and calling the church to oppose pornography and sex trafficking by leading lives of justice and righteousness. In October, pureHOPE co-sponsored a Faith & Values Summit in Cincinnati, at which Ohio elected officials—including the governor—committed to an audience of over 300 that Ohio would pass human trafficking legislation by the end of the year. That bill was signed into law on December 23rd. In November, pureHOPE co-sponsored an anti-trafficking roundtable near Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, one of the nation's hotspots for trafficking in persons. We assembled law enforcement officials, victim caretakers, and church leaders to create new partnerships in the Seattle area. Last week, at the Greater Cincinnati Human Trafficking Conference, pureHOPE staff led a training session on mobilizing the faith community to combat demand for sex trafficking—demand in this case being society's collective appetite for women and girls being used as sexual commodities. We are also thrilled to announce our 2011 pureJUSTICE summer internship. We are looking for talented college students from across the nation who love God and hunger and thirst for justice and purity, and who desire an eight-week experience that will train them as anti-trafficking advocates through spiritual formation and professional development.
